Beautiful Georgian new build on a large-scale
South Ascot | Twenty 20 Architecture
The Project
A glorious 10,000 sq foot new build designed in the Georgian style. Crisp brickwork with gauged arches and key stones over the arches, sash windows and manicured landscaping. A classical country house using modern construction techniques.
The main property features a stunning elliptical stone staircase. Outside, is a swimming pool and pavilion housing a gym and home office, all set within 3.5 acres of beautifully landscaped gardens. A self-contained annex sits above a 3-port garage.
Internally
Internally, the brief was guided by the client. Key features are Versailles flooring, vintage-looking liquid metal doors, bespoke internal wooden doors, wall panelling and, of course, the truly stunning elliptical stone staircase that showcases an equally amazing chandelier.
Created off-site, the main structure of the staircase comprises concrete and reinforced steel which was installed early in the schedule. 11 tonnes of steel meant it had to be lowered in by crane without the roof in place. Stone treads and risers, steel balustrade and wood panelled walls complete the structure.
Externally
The façade is organised around evenly spaced windows and repeated bays. Multi-pane sash windows, tall and vertically proportioned. The stone dressings (pale quoins, window surrounds and string courses) contrast pleasingly with the red brick.
The triangular pediment gables and the balustrade-topped parapet with stone ball finials give a decorative classical architectural flourish.
Finally, the hipped roofline, hidden behind a parapet, conceals the roof for a cleaner, more ‘monumental’ silhouette.
